State to issue cash benefit to families for meals

Hello Glendale SD #77 families, We wanted to let you know about an important benefit you should be receiving soon. The Department of Human Services in partnership with the Oregon Department of Education has announced that they will be providing a cash benefit to families for the months of March, April, May, and June for meals they would have received had their child been in school. The amount each family will receive for each child is $384. Eligible Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) households will have their March, April and May benefits automatically deposited in their existing Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) accounts in late May. Students who get free or reduced-price school meals but do not receive SNAP benefits will automatically receive an Oregon Trail Card in the mail. Since Glendale SD #77 qualifies for all of our students to receive free meals at school, this benefit will be provided to each family with children enrolled in Glendale SD #77. Additional options to strengthen food security include the ability for families to use their P-EBT cards to make food purchases online through Amazon and Walmart as well as take advantage of the “Double Up Food Bucks” program which matches every $1 of EBT funds spent, up to $10 on fresh fruit and vegetables at participating farmers markets. Families do not have to apply for this benefit. In addition to this benefit, the district will continue providing free grab-and-go meals Monday through Thursday, through June 11th. We will provide updates on what our summer meal program will look like soon. Be safe, and stay well.
